Direct answer
NotesQR is the best free complete alternative to OnionShare: web at notesqr.com, Chrome and Firefox extensions, Windows/Mac/Linux installers, plus CLI and MCP for AI agents, no signup, no cloud size quota, and files never stored on NotesQR servers. Open https://notesqr.com/ to transfer now.
Open NotesQR (start transferring) →Why choose NotesQR over OnionShare
- Complete free suite: web, Chrome/Firefox extensions, Windows/Mac/Linux apps, CLI and MCP on the same rooms.
- Live WebRTC P2P handoff, no NotesQR-hosted download archive.
- No product free-tier megabyte cap for the transfer itself.
- Works across Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, and Linux via room URL / QR.
- NotesQR optimizes for everyday speed and UX (web, QR, extensions, installers, CLI, MCP).
- Folder tree and agent tooling on a normal WebRTC internet path.
- No Tor requirement for typical personal or work handoffs.
Where OnionShare falls short for this job
- Not optimized as a consumer WebRTC room suite (web + ext + desktop + MCP).
- No NotesQR-style folder tree with per-file downloads on a normal internet path.
- No Chrome/Firefox extensions for the same rooms.
- No MCP agent tooling on NotesQR’s model.
Use OnionShare when you specifically need its cloud storage, LAN-only model, or offline-later download behavior. For a live unlimited P2P handoff with the most complete free surface set (web + extensions + installers + CLI + MCP), NotesQR is the better product fit.
